Been Preservation

Our contributions to the historic preservation field build on a legacy of Black people in preservation because we’ve “Been Preservation.”(TM)

Been Preservation

As we mark the 60th Anniversary of the passage of the 1966 National Historic Preservation Act, USA250, and Black in Historic Preservation’s 5-year anniversary, Black in Historic Preservation’s 2026 Program, "BeenPreservation" aims to educate the general public about the historic preservation activities of Black people in the US prior to the Act's passage.

Just like Beyoncé said, we’ve “Been Country,” join us as we proclaim, we’ve “Been Preservation.” (™)

Visit this page to learn about the lesser-known historic preservation activities of our Black ancestors. And, join us for a panel discussion in May for Preservation Month for a lively Member Talk about them.
